Description

  • WE USE REAL FERROCERIUM (FERRO ROD). Austrian ferrocerium combines over a century of craftsmanship and superior technology to produce the finest ferro rod in the world. Our ferrocerium is 76% Rare Earth Metal, 20% Iron, 2% Magnesium and 2% Anti-corrosives. There are no other additives.
  • MILITARY GRADE MAGNESIUM ROD used to create a burst of intense heat and flame kickstarting a fire even in the worst of conditions. The magnesium is easily scraped off with the striker and is ignited by sparks from the flint.
  • HARDWOOD HANDLE crafted for sure grip even in the dead of winter. The handle can be scraped to produce dry tinder – essential in an emergency situation.
  • STRIKER/SCRAPER made of hardened steel is sharpened to create large showers of sparks and won’t cut your skin. It also scrapes the magnesium rod and hardwood handle with ease.
  • PARACHORD rated at 550 lbs. tensile strength made in the US by certified US govt contractor. Won’t break or rot.

Fire-Fast Ferrocerium (Flint, Ferro Rod)

The original inventor of ferrocerium mandated the contents of a flint to be: 70% Rare Earth Metal and 30% Iron. Our ferro rod is 76% Rare Earth Metal, 20% Iron, 2% Magnesium, 2% anti-corrosives.

Kamper Lanyard cord wrapped.

All our fire starters come with the paracord wrapped around the handle and the striker slipped between the handle and cord, making them easy to carry and store.

Fire-Fast Trekker.

The Fire-Fast Trekker is a true survival tool. Designed in America, Made in America by American Workers. Our entire line of fire starters have large hardwood handles, 96% pure ferrocerium rods and 95% pure magnesium rods. In winter, when lighting a fire is difficult, a firm grip and hot sparks can make the difference between failure and success. Our fire starters produce a heavy shower of sparks and high heat. Most dry tinder (dry grass, leaves, etc) can be ignited by striking the flint alone (cotton balls, dryer lint etc. are not needed). For additional fire starting power, shave some magnesium into a pile and use sparks from the flint to ignite the magnesium. The magnesium burns at 4500 degrees, this will help ignite stubborn tinder. In an emergency the handle can be shaved for dry tinder as well. Both the Trekker and Kamper Lanyard have quality upgrades. We now bury both magnesium and flint into the hardwood handle. No casual damage will hurt these fire starters.

Fire Starters Made in the USA!

Manufacturing Trekker Hardwood Handles.

We use a CNC machine to accurately drill the holes to mount the magnesium and ferrocerium rods into the African Hardwood handles. This ensures our fire starters are tough, strong and can take the knocks and bumps of outdoor life.

Sanding Trekker Handles.

Each handle is sanded top and bottom, by hand, to remove any chance of splinters. Then a side hole is drilled to thread the 550 paracord and attach the hardened steel striker.

Burning Fire-Fast Name.

We burn our brand name "Fire-Fast" into each handle with a hand operated heating iron.

Point of Interest.

One year we purchased an entire tree trunk to mill our handles from. The trade routes takes a tree trunk from where it is grown in the African Congo to Europe, from there to Canada where the trunk is cured (dried) and rough cut. It ends up in Santa Ana, California at the mill we use where they cut our handles to exact specifications. Finally we cut the mag/flint holes, paracord hole, sand each end and burn in our brand name.

This is the Premium African Hardwood we use to make Fire-Fast fire starter handles.

These trees are grown in the Congo. They have a natural high resin content that makes them waterproof. In an emergency dry tinder can be shaved from the handle. The grain of this natural wood shows through. The edges of the tree look like oak. Two inches in and the bands of red and tan begin.

Philosophy.

We manufacture quality gear for Camping, Survival, Preparation and good times. Lighting a fire with our fire starters is simple - even for an untrained novice. They're great for camping. You'll gain necessary survival skills as you practice. On the weekend hose down your charcoal with lighter fluid and light your barbecue with a shower of sparks from a Trekker - now that's style! Lastly, it's better to have one and not need it, than to not have one and need it.

Specific Technical & Background Details for the Trekker.

Striker, Paracord, Marine Epoxy.

The striker is 2 3/4 inches long by 1/2 an inch wide. It is made of hardened (high carbon), tempered (heated and cooled) steel. It is sharpened but is not sharp enough to cut your skin. The edge is very durable and better than a knife or axe at creating spark and heat.

The paracord is 550 lb breaking strain. It has a seven strand core. It won't rot or disintegrate.

Marine epoxy is used to secure the roughened surfaces of the flint and magnesium. These abraded surfaces provide a 10X stronger bond than if they were left smooth. Also, this epoxy is equally effective in bonding the handle wood to the metal stem. Again - both the magnesium and ferrocerium rods are buried into the handle for maximum quality and durability.

African Hardwood, Magnesium Rod.

The Trekker handle is 3 3/8ths inches in length. 1 1/16 wide by 1 1/4 deep. The magnesium hole is 3/4ths of an inch deep. The ferro rod hole is 1/2 an inch deep.

The Trekker magnesium rod is 3 3/4th inches long and 3/4ths of an inch in diameter. The smooth groove (to accommodate the flint) has been roughened. The rod is 95% pure magnesium. Magnesium metal burns at 4500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ferrocerium (Ferro Rod, Flint)

The Trekker ferrocerium rod is manufactured in Austria at the company started by the original inventor, designer and manufacturer of the modern flint. The flint is 3 1/2 inches long and 3/8ths of an inch in diameter. (3" exposed 1/2" buried in handle). The back of the flint has been roughened.

Modern (man made) flint technology was invented in 1903 by Carl Auer Von Welsbach. In 1907 he opened a factory making flints.
