Although the DRAGONtail Shadowfire 365 Tenkara Rod is comparatively priced to entry level rods it is a high performance rod that will out perform other Tenkara rods priced within 50 dollars. It is a 12 foot (365cm) 6:4 soft action rod. This rod has a light balanced feel and a soft action for an amazing Tenkara experience, it is a great rod for most purposes. It is a great choice for small streams to rivers where the fish are mostly under 18 inches and as small as 4 inches. The Shadowfire rod can handle larger fish than 18 inches, depending on your Tenkara fish fighting skills, but it is made for small to medium sized fish.

Smooth Casting & Premium Rod Flex
The soft smooth casting action of this Tenkara rod with very very low oscillation will help you cast more naturally and accurately. If you are using level line, you will want size #3 or #3.5 for best performance but it will cast smaller sizes if desired. It will also cast any furled lines or tapered lines with ease.
The improved flex of this rod balances out the pressure nicely throughout the rod sections to eliminate hinging or points of pressure when fighting fish. This is something you would expect out of an expensive rod but you get it for much less.

Tenkara hails from mountainous regions of Japan, where the remote location of many villages required fishermen to develop a reliable method of catching fish using only the materials that were readily available in their immediate environment. Long, flexible bamboo rods, silk or horsehair line, and flies made with feathers or animal fur fastened to bent needles provided a makeshift solution as effective as it was simple.
Tenkara fishing has found its way into the hearts of anglers around the world who appreciate the minimalism of this traditional method of fishing. While tenkara shares many of the characteristics of fly fishing, as well as some of the techniques, the absence of a reel puts anglers more closely in touch with the stream and fish, requiring them to pull in the line hand over hand and manually drag when a fish runs.
